Hakim Birthworks
Welcome!
My name is Hakim and my pronouns are they/he. I come from Upper Egypt on my father’s side, and France via Abenaki Territory on my mother’s. I do many things in my life, but some of the roles I feel most connected to are those of sibling, care worker, artist, clown, and, most deeply, friend. I’ve lived on Kwanlin Dun and Ta’an Kwach’an territory since 2020.
As a birth and postpartum doula, I support clients emotionally, physically, and spiritually through their experiences in pregnancy, birth, and as new parents. The services and products that I provide are grounded in my belief that all birthers and babies deserve to be surrounded by care, support, and dignity during the birth and postpartum periods.
Please explore this website to learn more about my practice, current projects, and to see what services and products I’m currently offering. Thank you for being here!
My Values
-
As a racialized person, I prioritize working with BIPOC clients. I come to birthwork with the intention to uplift your traditional and cultural knowledge, and to help you navigate birthing in a white-centric healthcare system. My own practice as a birthworker is informed by traditional Egyptian and SWANA (South West Asia and North Africa) knowledge, and leaves lots of room for whatever practices from your lineage you choose to bring to your birth and postpartum experiences.
-
I am a fierce advocate for queer and trans reproductive justice, and will help you navigate the particular ins and outs of pregnancy, birthing, and postpartum as a queer and/or trans person. Do you have a non-normative family structure? Are you a trans birther? Maybe I’m the birthworker for you!
-
Everyone is deserving of support, dignity, and quality care during their birth journeys. You are the one making the decisions, and I am there to listen to you, walk alongside you, and advocate for you every step of the way, no matter what your background, lived experience, or needs are.

All of my work is priced using a sliding scale. More information on this is available below, in the “Sliding Scale” portion of this website. Someday I will learn how to hyperlink… for now, scroll down!
Postpartum Care Products
Here are some of the offerings I make for my postpartum clients, now available for purchase as gifts for the birthers in your life. All of the formulations and recipes are my own, and use ingredients traditionally found in SWANA (South West Asia and North Africa) postpartum remedies. If you’d like to learn more about SWANA plant medicine, especially as it relates to land-based practice and anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist movements, I recommend the work of my teacher Layla K. Feghali. Learn more here.

About Me
I began offering postpartum care to folks in my life in 2022 and quickly realized that birthwork combines many of my favourite things: cooking warm and nourishing foods for others, in-depth learning about nerdy things (I love biology), making folks a cup of tea and listening to their worries, putting babies to sleep. Since then I’ve trained as a birth and postpartum doula with Nesting Doula Collective, and have started offering birth and pregnancy support to folks as well. I am very new to the world of birth and still consider myself a student. I am lucky to be surrounded by teachers, mentors, friends and birthers who share so much with me.
When not supporting birthers, I can be found studying plant medicine, tending gardens, connecting to my culture, or working on my latest schemes as a theatre maker, musician, and visual artist. I am most alive on the wheel between reverence and irreverence, and deeply believe in the role of the clown as social disruptor. If you are looking for a birthworker who is committed to thinking creatively about ways of caring for one another amidst failing systems, I might be the guy for you. Yalla!
